What a great year!

It was just over a year ago that my friend Jonathan Martin asked if I wanted to go for a dive at Buntzen Lake.  So much has happened since then: From a couple of divers who were curious about a fresh water lake, we have grown in to a grass roots group of passionate, like-minded folks working to protect the environment we live in.

In just a little over 12 months, Divers for Cleaner Lakes and Oceans was formed, performed 53 clean-up dives, and removed 10,512.7 lbs of garbage from our local lakes and ocean.  Some of our members have even performed a few clean up dives while on vacation abroad.

I want to thank each and every diver and non-diver who joined the group as we removed beer bottles and cans, plastic boat paddles, sunglass, lighters, shoes, and countless other things. It is certainly no easy task and it takes a lot of these things to make up five tons of garbage!

We look forward to 2015 with great anticipation.  I think it will be another fun year with friends having a great time diving, taking care of our environment, and spending quality time with each other.

Going for dives with good friends is always a lot of fun. Going for dives AND doing something great for the environment just adds a big bonus to the day! This is a great way for me to keep active in the dive community and hopefully it will contribute to making our corner of the world just a little better than how we found it.
